Zigbee

Zigbee standard allows the implementation of true networks of devices (see figure). Each network component is able to exchange information with any other component and with a “coordinator” that, in turn, controls the operation of the whole system.

We acquired a significant experience with Zigbee and we are ready to implement even complex devices using this technology, as we know its advantages but also its limits.

Embedding Zigbee into your idea

We have a significant experience with Zigbee. We not only carefully studied the Zigbee standard as defined by Zigbee Alliance, but we designed many devices based on Zigbee. Adding to this our capability in industrial design, we can cope with high complexity projects and we are immediately ready to offer our competent experience.

Among main Zigbee applications we implemented, we mention a security system for personnel concerned with keeping the public order; a televoting device; the ZigMagic, a complete line of devices for applications in industrial controls and advanced domotics.

XBee Series II module

Most of our projects take advantage of XBee modules manufactured by Digi. They allow a strong reduction of project development time, beeing also perfect for prototyping.
Moreover, Digi defined a proprietary protocol (Digimesh) that, in some cases, is more convenient than Zigbee. We are ready to give our advice on which technology and protocol is more suitable for your project.

What’s Zigbee?

Zigbee is a radio communication standard defined by Zigbee Alliance, initially developed for application in advanced domotic field. A typical Zigbee network Zigbee standard allows the implementation of real networks of devices (see figure). Each network component is able to exchange information with any other component and with a “coordinator” that, in turn, controls the operation of the whole system.. With reference to the figure, we can imagine (e.g.) nodes "C" ed "R" as household appliances and light control boxes, while nodes "E" could be pushbuttons and remote controls.

Main Zigbee characteristics are:

  • It’s a Standard; every Zigbee device works in the same way regardless of manufacturer
  • Radio protocol is robust and reliable, with automatic errors correction and data transmission retray, if necessary.
  • Excellent noise immunity, due to the capacity of automatic selection of working channel
  • No tax, licence or concession. Zigbee frequencies are worlwide regulated and totally free.

Rather rapidly, the market realized that Zigbee can be used in very many applications, e.g.:

  • Data collection coming from probes spread on the territory; such as a network of humidity and temperature probes for automatic fields irrigation
  • Industrial and amateur robotics
  • Remote transmission of analogue and digital quantities for industrial application. As an example, it is possible to control the operation of many mechanisms from a single station, without any wiring
